The company and the crew

The New York mural & large-image company: murals, banners and signs painted at building scale, by a crew that preps, paints and protects every wall — from New York City to Kenya.

The company

Open Air Gallery

Open Air Gallery paints murals, banners and signs at building scale — for Gucci, Crown Royal, Uber and more — and backs every wall with the prep, the paint science and the preservation that make it last.

Every wall starts with a survey: the surface, the light, how the paint will weather and who will stand in front of it. From there we scale the design, mix the colour and paint it by hand, with the care and finish a wall that has to last a lifetime demands.

How a wall gets painted

Prep, paint, preservation

Our three stages, in full — the same three on every wall, and the same three this company has published since its first site.

  1. Mural prep

When it comes to mural creations, it starts from a small image and explodes onto a massive canvas. It takes meticulous prep work to ensure that the scale of the image is appropriately captured. The ability to scale and project is what differs an artist and a muralist.

  2. Paint analysis

There is a science to paint and an understanding for the preservation of the environment. We analyze the way the paint will decay over time and how the light will affect its color. This intensive process allows us to use only what we need and what will last.

  3. Mural preservation

After the completion of the mural, we understand the fears of clients regarding vandalism and degradation. We take this into account and apply environmentally friendly coating that will make it easy to clean any future vandalism without damaging the art work.

The crew

Nobody paints eighty feet alone

We are a team of professional muralists and painters. Whatever the size of the wall, we consider the space, the lighting and what the work is for, plan the job from prep to preservation, and execute it with precision — on brief, on schedule and built to last.

The film

Four minutes on Open Air Gallery, the studio’s own edit: the walls, the paint being mixed, a base coat being tagged over, the crew on the lifts and at the wall. With its sound.

We take it off, too. Graffiti removal, pressure washing and commercial painting in NYC, from the crew that knows what the surface is made of.

got a wall?

If you’re ready, we’re ready.

Tell us the wall, the city and roughly how big it is. We will come back with a plan and a price.
